In place of the Body Care we talk first of all about BMI (Body Mass Index) represents the size of a person and lets you know if it looks like obesity or overweight, or is within normal. It is calculated by dividing the weight in kilos by the size or height, expressed in meters, squared (P / T2). For example, if you weigh 50 kilos and measure 1.60, your BMI will be 19.5 (50 / 1.60 * 1.60). The values recommended by the World Health Organization are:
- Thin: – de 19
- Ideal Weight: 19-24
- Overweight: 25-29
- Obesity: 30-40
- Severe Obesity: + de 41
Where does fat accumulate?
- Peripheral or gynoid obesity: accumulated fat in the buttocks, thighs and arms.
- Abdominal, central or android obesity: accumulated fat in the abdomen.
Abdominal perimeter
Together with the BMI the Perimeter Abdominal (waist circumference in centimeters) is the most effective measure to diagnose overweight. The measurement is made with a normal tape measure and the reference point is just below the navel. Above 88 cm in women and 102 cm in men, the risk of diabetes or cardiovascular problems increases considerably.
The Metabolic Syndrome.
A skirt or pants too fair may be the first sign of alarm of the so-called Metabolic Syndrome, a major enemy for health, it increases the risk of heart attack and diabetes. In addition, the abdominal perimeter, arterial hypertension, having high triglycerides (above 150), a low level of HDL cholesterol (not higher than 40 in men and 50 in women) and more than 110 blood glucose (in fasting) are the symptoms of the so-called Metabolic Syndrome.
